Volunteer

Our volunteers are one of our greatest resources.  Perry County always has had a strong spirit of neighbor helping neighbor.  Since our earliest days, volunteers have given generously of themselves to improve the lives of others.

Year after year dozens upon dozens of individuals/families contribute over 2,800 to 4,000+ hours of service.  They are doing hard but necessary work: answering phones, stocking the shelves, assisting seniors, supporting veterans and their families, helping to deliver items, picking up donations and a whole lot more.

Our daily/weekly volunteers are usually retired, supporting their homes and contribute to their community. Volunteering creates the types of active, engaged citizens that our community needs. Research shows that people who volunteer are more likely to get involved in groups, attend church, stay current on news, participate in  elections, and work with their neighbors to solve problems.

Our volunteer team members serve as a united team with one purpose that produces joy.  We serve because of Matthew 7:7-12.  We are a united family with a desire for community aiding one another and those we serve.

Volunteers are those individuals who give time to the vision and mission of
Join Hands Ministry.

You'll also need up to date PA Child Abuse Clearance and State Police Clearance.

Needs  range from, our Back to School and Christmas Network Programs to  receptionist greeting of clients, to assembling homeless kits, to taking  inventory and assorting donated materials, to maintenance of the  building and property. No talent or offer of time is too small.  Prayerfully consider what God may be leading you to do.

Client Testimony

My Babies are Home

“We  needed to fix up our trailer and clean it up to bring our kids home  because they were taken from us for 2 months. You guys helped us by  getting a huge dumpster for us and getting us help with replacing  windows, finish painting, and fixing our leaking sinks.

It  helped us out because if it wasn't for you guys at join hands and the  volunteers that help we wouldn't have been able to bring our kids home  as quickly as we did and for that we are very great full you have  brought my world back into mine and my husband's lives thank you." - M

Volunteer Testimonies

Searching a Way to Get More Involved

"I first heard about Join Hands Ministry when someone on Facebook shared a post about sponsoring a child for  Christmas. My husband and I had been searching for a way to get more  involved with the community and we both felt this was a meaningful way  for us to do so. I had forgotten how much fun it was to shop for little  children (our children are all grown) that coupled with knowing a dear  child would wake up Christmas Morning to presents!

We  went from just sponsoring children to also helping the staff prepare  for the parents to pick up the presents; all I can say is what a  well-organized process Join Hands has in place and all the Christmas  (Ninja) Elves...what a blessing it is to be part of the process!!

From  that moment, I knew I wanted to do more. I volunteer as a receptionist a  few days a week and am continually in awe of not only what Join Hands  provides but the many other wonderful organizations, churches, and  gracious people of Perry County who hear the call and answer the need.  Being a volunteer has truly opened my eyes and my heart."- Kim

Volunteering is Addictive

“I  volunteer because God gave me the gift of service.  I came to Join  Hands about six years ago after hearing a sermon about using our  spiritual gifts.  I walked into the old office and asked if a weekly  volunteer was needed.  One was; and I’ve been here ever since.  None of  my volunteer activities ever seem like work; it’s always a labor of love  knowing I’m doing God’s will.  Volunteering is addictive and  heart-warming!  It has its own rewards – special ones that can’t be  imagined until you experience them for yourself.  Try it – you’ll like  it!” - Carol

Donor to Volunteer

My first contacts with Join Hands Ministry were to make occasional  donations. Then two Christmases ago I volunteered at the Christmas give  out. WOW! I was overwhelmed by the amount of work and love that went  into the whole process. I was so very blessed by doing that. Working  with and talking to the people we were helping who had so many different  needs humbled me and helped me to see just how very blessed my life is.

One  day after that I was driving along thinking about how blessed I was to  have a warm home. I felt the Holy Spirit move me to help someone else be  warm. I grabbed my checkbook and drove right over to JHM with a small  donation to help towards heat for someone else.

I  wanted to do more! Mike asked me if I would be willing to help out  occasionally with phones and small office tasks when he or Sheree had to  be out of the office. I was floored by how much need there is in Perry  County, and at how much JHM does. I loved helping and when plans were  being made for the move to the new building Mike said he wanted to have  "receptionists" at the front desk. I immediately told him I had "dibs"  on Tuesdays!

It  has been such a blessing to me to volunteer here and to be a part of  the Join Hands family. I even got my husband volunteering here and he  also enjoys being a part of the family. Thank you Join Hands! - Judi

Most of us Live in a Bubble

"Having  retired a few years ago, I now volunteer at Join Hands Ministry twice a  week as a receptionist.  I volunteer for many reasons.  First and  foremost is to fulfill Christ's commandment to take of those in nee.   Most of us live in a bubble and neglect to see the needs of others  around us.  My eyes have been opened since spending time at JHM and I am  more aware of the struggles many people face in their everyday lives.   I have witnessed the respectful and caring ways in which the directors  and volunteers of JHM interact with clients by helping them meet their immediate needs as well as providing guidance, and most importantly,  hope.  Throughout the two years I have volunteered, I continue to be  encouraged, thankful, and sometimes amazed at the work being done here."  - Karen

One of the Best Run Charities in Perry County

"There's  a lot of places who just use Christ to receive donation but Join Hands leadership is blessed with the Holy Spirit.  I have seen good results  with my own eyes. Every time I Donate or help out I receive so much  happiness.  This is one of the best run charities in Perry County.  I  can never repay them for all they have done for my Grandson.  Love and  prayers."

- Garry

Its an Honor

"If someone asks why I volunteer at JHM, I love to tell them about how the Lord has saved me, and in scripture I am called to serve. Acts 20:35 It is more blessed to give than to receive. The atmosphere and people at JHM are encouraging and positive influence to my week. Our clients are a Blessing to my heart as I serve. I am challenged to grow as a person, and in my faith here, its an honor to be a small part of this ministry." - Deb

Meaningful & Belonging

"I get a meaningful feeling of giving and a strong sense of belonging when volunteering at JHM.  I try to share the love modeled by Jesus's loving of each of us by putting others before myself in my day to day living.  JHM is a wonderful place to do that." - Bev

We Retired

"My husband and I wanted to do some volunteer work outside of our church when we retired. Our lives have been very blessed.  We wanted to share the love of God and help in some way those that have needs.

Mike Burns had preached and talked about the Join Hands Ministry at our church several times. If you know him, then you know he is on fire for the Lord.  And the enthusiasm he shows for JHM just radiates from him.

We felt this is where God wanted us to do our volunteering.  I am a receptionist and I am enjoying the job so much.  It just warms the heart to see how thankful they (those we serve) are for what we are able to do for them.  They think we are a blessing to them, but they don't realize they are a bigger blessing to us at JHM.  My husband delivers or picks up large items from different people.  He is being blessed also.

We are grateful to have this opportunity to give back." - Eunice
